Saffron Walden
Essex
CB11 4ER
It is one of Britain’s most attractive and well-preserved small towns, set within open countryside halfway between Saffron Walden and Great Dunmow.
It has a wealth of medieval buildings, thatched cottages and quaint streets. The magnificent Thaxted Parish Church is of cathedral proportions and the Guildhall is ample evidence of the town’s prosperity and standing having once been the centre of the cutlery trade. A small market still takes place every Friday.

The compact nature of the town centre makes it perfect for a short circular walk taking in many of the famous sites and enjoying the undulating north Essex countryside.

Thaxted is also home to the annual Morris Weekend which sees the gathering of Morris dancers from across the country gathering to dance through the town culminating in the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance in the churchyard.
