No trip to Uttlesford would be complete without a visit to Thaxted.
It is one of Britain’s most attractive and well-preserved small towns, set within open countryside halfway between Saffron Walden and Great Dunmow.
THAXTED HISTORY
It has a wealth of medieval buildings, thatched cottages and quaint streets. The magnificent Thaxted Parish Church is of cathedral proportions and the Guildhall is ample evidence of the town’s prosperity and standing having once been the centre of the cutlery trade. A small market still takes place every Friday.
