Uttlesford offers great opportunities for cycling whatever your level of experience.
The North Essex countryside is characterised by gently undulating hills making it the prefect terrain for cycling.
Cycling Routes
National Cycle Route 11 goes through the district and links with our national routes. See More about Route 11 on the Sustrans site. See more about Route 11 here.
Road cyclists can follow the route of the Tour de France which came through the district in 2014.
Check out Komoot and Route You for a selection of other cycling routes.
For cyclists wanting a more genteel pace Uttlesford Wildlife have routes following quieter lanes which each take you on a tour past some special roadside verges with their summertime wildflowers and butterflies.
Cyclists who are less confident on the roads or have young children in tow can head to Hatfield Forest or explore the Flitch Way, a former railway track which is now an important greenway and wildlife corridor.
Cyclist Friendly Cafes
There are lots of cafes and places that welcome cyclists across the district; it’s worth calling ahead if you’re part of a big group to let them know when to expect you.
