
Thaxted Windmill – Conserved for Its Community Heritage Project
From Farm to Mill to Market
The historic routes from the farms to the Thaxted Windmills and to the markets.
Saturday 18 July 2026 from 10am to 3.30pm.
Church Hall, 1 Margaret St, Thaxted, Dunmow CM6 2QN.
Morning Session 10am – 12.30pm Presentation about medieval milling in Thaxted; using maps and written evidence to research the farms supplying the grain and how it reached the six windmills and the flour markets.
Lunch 12.30pm – 1.15pm. Please being your own. Mid-Morning Refreshments provided.
1.15pm – 3.30pm Walking and recording the routes from the farms to the sites of the windmills. Notebooks and cameras helpful.
Led by Anne Mason who, as well as being the Project Activities Manager, is a landscape historian.

Please note:
You can attend the morning session only as the afternoon will involve walking on footpaths and uneven ground.
There is no parking at the church hall. Free parking is available in the car park in Margaret Street but spaces are limited
