Legendary Essex is collecting Essex folklore ancient and modern through collaborative storytelling and artmaking with residents of all ages
Artists Jessica Pearce and Aine Corr are taking a new folklore art project ‘Legendary Essex’ on the road this Spring and Summer. Join us in the celebration of Essex folklore stories, explored through collaborative storytelling and art making with residents of all ages.
Terrifying tales of Essex old and new. The Black Holes of the Battle Ditches, Spiders as big as your hand, an asteroid from outer space and ghostly soldiers – just some of the stories told so far, and immortalised into art at the Legendary Essex art Workshop.
The project will harness the rich cultural tapestry of Essex to celebrate our vibrant and evolving regional folklore.
This art project will culminate with an exhibition from 11th-20th September 2025 at the 14th Century Old Sun Inn at Saffron Walden, with the collected stories to be preserved in physical and digital forms, creating a lasting cultural asset for the region.
