Saffron Walden Town Council (SWTC) is excited to announce the return of The Beach on The Common for summer 2023. Back by popular demand, SWTC first brought a beach to Saffron Walden last year as part of the town’s free celebrations for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The ‘grand opening’ of the man-made beach will take place on Friday 28 July 2023 at 2.30pm. The Town Mayor, Cllr Heather Asker will open the beach with support from Pure Rhythm mermaids and seafolk. Said Sue Raven of Pure Rhythm, “The Pure Rhythm Mermaids are very excited to be returning to the Beach for its opening event. The Mer-Sisters have been away in the cold waters of the Atlantic for the past year, so are looking forward to seeing all the children again, playing in the sand and making sand-castles. Come and meet the Mermaids with their colourful summer tails along with their seafolk friends for a rare photo opportunity at the beach”.
Then from Saturday 29 June until Monday 28 August (Tuesdays – Sundays), the beach will be open between 10am – 4.30pm. It will be available for private hire on Monday afternoons (31 July, 07,14, and 21 Aug) . This would suit a birthday party or an office team building event. Enquires to events@saffronwalden.gov.uk.
