Prepare for an exhilarating musical adventure on Saturday 4 May at 7:30pm as the BBC Concert Orchestra takes to the skies in a captivating performance recorded live for ‘Friday Night is Music Night’, blending beloved film scores and timeless classics inspired by the magic of flight. This unforgettable evening promises to enchant audiences with soaring melodies and iconic compositions.
Highlighted in this spectacular showcase is the BBC Concert Orchestra’s rendition of John Williams’ unforgettable airborne scenes, including the iconic flying sequence from ‘ET’, alongside other mesmerising pieces from Williams’ repertoire, such as those from ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Hook’. Audiences will also be treated to the majestic sounds of Walton’s ‘Spitfire Prelude and Fugue’ and Sir Arthur Bliss’ haunting soundtrack to the HG Wells sci-fi masterpiece, ‘Things to Come’.
In addition to these cinematic treasures, attendees will be swept away by the haunting violin solo from ‘Schindler’s List’ and the rich romanticism of Korngold’s timeless violin concerto, echoing the grandeur of Hollywood’s golden age.
‘Friday Night is Music Night’, now housed on BBC Radio 3, proudly presents this event, featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra under the baton of conductor Ben Palmer.
