Hear Handel’s masterpiece re-imagined by Mozart.
If you weren’t aware that Mozart arranged Messiah for a late-18th-century orchestra, you are in good company. From 1800–1950, the piece was more frequently played in his re-orchestration, but over the last 70 years it has completely fallen out of fashion. Enjoy a rare chance to experience Handel’s iconic oratorio in Mozart’s compelling version, abundant in rich and surprising textures created by the addition of trombones, horns, flute and clarinet. Conductor Sofi Jeannin leads Britten Sinfonia, the BBC Singers and some of the UK’s leading soloists.
