Discover the Bluebell Woods, Rickling Green

  1. Starting Point – The Cricketers Arms
Begin your walk from the forecourt at the pub, facing away from the building.
  2. Along the Village Green to Woodside
Turn right and follow the village green past the post box. Shortly after, take a left into Woodside and follow the bridleway into the woods.
  3. Through the Bluebell Wood
Continue straight, then after about 50 yards, fork left near a holly tree. In May, this wood is splendidly carpeted with bluebells — a truly atmospheric sight.
  4. Across the Countryside Track
The path emerges onto a track bordering open fields. Turn right and follow it as it slopes downward, then take a right turn at the bottom where the waymark indicates a grassy path.
  5. To St Simon & St Jude’s Church
Follow the path past a cream-and-white house, then left, and after about 40 yards, right onto a lane. This leads to Quendon Parish Church, St Simon and St Jude — a charming point to pause and enjoy the surroundings.
  6. Across a Field to Wood Edge
Carry on along the bridleway through some bushes, bearing right out into a field. Cross diagonally to reach the far corner and the edge of an ancient, coppiced wood — here you’ll often find oxlips and orchids too!
  7. Back to the Road and Return Path
At the wood’s corner, turn right and follow the wooded edge until you reach a fence. Turn left into the wood, then right to emerge onto the road. Cross over and take the tarmacked path by the first house, which leads you back into Rickling Green. Turn left to return to the pub.
